The Hard Truth About Avoidance

Hey there, beautiful ones. This morning, I found myself in an odd place. I woke up to a gorgeous sunrise, mountain views, and a new day ahead of me. Yet, I felt nothing. Despite the breathtaking view and all the beauty around me, I was just… indifferent. It’s weird to feel this way when everything seems perfect, but there I was, feeling off. I tried to find a reason, something to explain why I was experiencing this emotional flatline, but I couldn’t quite pinpoint the issue.

After chatting with my daughter, she suggested that maybe I needed to release something. But what? I had no idea. When my best friend dropped by, he sensed something was wrong. He asked what might be causing me worry or stress, and I initially drew a blank. Then I thought about my ex-husband. He’d been trying to reach out despite my efforts to stay silent and move on. The very thought of him made me exhausted.

Dealing with the Root Cause

After I shared my thoughts with my best friend, I expected him to tell me to keep ignoring my ex and hope he would eventually stop. But he surprised me. He told me to put my foot down and stop being passive. He explained that as long as I kept avoiding the problem, it would persist. His words hit me like a ton of bricks—I’d been silently enduring this unwanted connection, hoping it would just vanish. It was time to take control and put an end to it for good.

Sometimes, in our desire to avoid conflict, we end up prolonging our own suffering. We convince ourselves that taking the high road is the best path, but it’s not always the case. When someone disrupts our peace, we need to address it head-on. Ignoring the issue only gives it more power over us. My best friend was right—I had to take action if I wanted to be truly free.

Taking Charge of Your Peace

As much as I didn’t want to face my ex-husband or even acknowledge his existence, I knew my friend was right. My indifference was rooted in the unresolved tension with him. I realized that my reluctance to engage in conflict was preventing me from reaching a place of complete peace. It was time to take control and end this chapter for good.

For any of you beautiful ones who might be in a similar situation, remember that avoiding the problem won’t make it go away. It might be uncomfortable, but sometimes you need to stand up for yourself and assert your boundaries. Whether it’s an ex, a toxic friend, or a challenging work situation, you owe it to yourself to create a life that is free from unnecessary stress.

Take my best friend’s advice: put your foot down. It’s not about being confrontational or aggressive; it’s about valuing your peace and happiness enough to stand up for yourself. You have the strength within you to make the changes needed to live a more fulfilling life. I believe in you. And remember, as always, I love you. 💙
