Hey there, beautiful ones! Gather ’round so we can have a chat about mindfulness. Mindfulness is something that is moment to moment. It’s being aware of your thoughts, feelings, actions, and surroundings through a compassionate lens.
When you embrace mindfulness, you are not judging yourself, your surroundings, or the people around you. However, you maintain an awareness that helps you make rational decisions for your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. This doesn’t mean forcing yourself, or anyone else for that matter, to do, think, or be any particular way. Let’s dive into how mindfulness can transform your life.

Understanding Mindfulness
Mindfulness is about being present and fully engaged with whatever we’re doing at the moment—free from distraction or judgment, and aware of our thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them. For example, when I began to really dig deep within myself, I realized that certain things I thought, said, or did were not from the present circumstances; they were from old programming, old traumas, and old patterns/habits. This awareness caused me to challenge every thought, feeling, and action to ensure that I was responding to things with a present mindset.
When my marriage got really rocky, instead of bringing up incidents from our past, I focused on what at that moment was upsetting me. This kept me from unleashing unhealed and unprocessed emotions into present situations. It also kept me from piling on old problems onto new ones. This shifted how I handled any disputes we had with one another. Unfortunately, he was unable to manage to do the same. Yet, I didn’t blame him for this. Because I became more mindful of myself, my words, and my actions, I was able to show him grace because, in the past, I would have handled things the same way he was.
Making Informed Decisions
Mindfulness means you can see not only your perspective but the possible perspectives of others. It doesn’t mean you have to agree. However, it does mean that you can make an informed decision about your relationships and surroundings based on rationality and not your emotions. Mindfulness helps you to make decisions and choices that are best for your well-being. They may be tough decisions, but they are necessary for your growth.
When I learned to embrace mindfulness it also helped me realize my hometown was no longer serving me mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, or spiritually. Sure, my family and some friends are there, but if I’m being honest with myself, I’ve outgrown it. Neither getting divorced nor leaving my hometown were things I wanted to do, and I spent years very unhappy because I was looking at things through an emotional lens. However, once I turned inward, I was able to see what I truly needed in life.

Cultivating Self-Awareness
When you embrace mindfulness it helps you to truly see your needs and let go of things that are no longer serving you. It takes a little practice, but it’s well worth the effort in the long run. You can do the same thing in yourself, your relationships, and your surroundings. It helps you to see your needs clearly and make decisions that foster your growth and happiness.
Action Steps to Practice Mindfulness
To get started on your mindfulness journey, here are three action steps:
- Practice Daily Meditation: Spend at least 10 minutes each day in meditation. Focus on your breath and observe your thoughts without judgment. This helps you cultivate a habit of mindfulness and increases your awareness of the present moment.
- Mindful Journaling: Keep a journal where you reflect on your daily experiences and emotions. Write down what triggers certain feelings and how you react. This helps you identify patterns and understand yourself better.
- Mindful Observation: Take time each day to observe your surroundings mindfully. Whether you’re eating, walking, or simply sitting, pay attention to the sights, sounds, smells, and sensations around you. This practice enhances your ability to stay present and appreciate the moment.
Mindfulness is a powerful tool for personal growth and well-being. It helps you see things clearly, make informed decisions, and let go of what no longer serves you. I believe in you. And remember, as always, I love you 💙.
