Welcome to day three of stepping into your Genius, beautiful ones. Today we’re discussing the body — the physical.
Often we feel an ache or pain and write it off as random. Or it’s been plaguing us for so long that we just deal with it and move on. But what if what you feel in your body is directly connected to your mental and emotional well-being?
The Body Never Forgets
Your body stores everything within itself. Every single thing you feel gets stashed away somewhere inside you. This is why so many people carry chronic pain in different places. It’s backed-up emotion that was never released. It’s also often responsible for that weight that never seems to budge, no matter what you try. Mind-blowing, right?
Even the diseases many people face are, at their root, emotions that were never processed and let go of over time. Trauma lives in the body. Grief lives in the body. Anger gets stashed away in different parts of the body too.
Here’s the good news: you can address this. It starts with recognizing which emotions tend to follow your pain. You might notice a sudden ache in your lower back right before you walk into a tense situation. Or a pain in the back of your neck that shows up alongside mourning something or someone. That excruciating menstrual cramping before your period even arrives may be carrying insecurity and unresolved trauma along with it.
Releasing these aches and pains takes time. It requires freeing yourself of the feelings underneath them. This occurs by asking the who, what, where, when, why, and how of your emotions, the same way we practiced with the emotional pillar. As you do this work, your body will often begin to release the pain, or drop the weight, with far less effort than you expected. Consistent movement helps too because it keeps circulation flowing and gives stored emotion a pathway out.
Energy Check First, Time Check Second
We are all busy doing something – running a business, caring for family, working a job, keeping up a household. The trouble starts when your to-do list is full, but your energy tank is empty.
Keeping a schedule is important as you step into your Genius, but your energy levels deserve just as much attention as your calendar. So often we keep doing things that drain us on every level, simply because we believe there’s no other option. Because who else is going to handle it?
You’re doing yourself a disservice, my friend. Pushing forward on low or no energy is hard on the body. Left unchecked, this imbalance can lead to illness and disease. Remember, your body doesn’t forget. If you keep forcing it to operate without the energy required, it will eventually shut down and force the rest for you.
The remedy is delegation. You are not a superhero, and you shouldn’t try to behave like one. Lean on family, friends, and co-workers to help carry the load. Tools like TaskRabbit exist specifically to take draining tasks off your plate. And don’t tell yourself you’re too far along to hire a personal assistant for the things that deplete you. Operating at Genius level isn’t about doing everything yourself. It’s about knowing when to step back so someone else can step in.
Regulate Your Nervous System
Regular nervous system check-ins keep you functioning at your best across every area of life. Trying to accomplish anything meaningful with a dysregulated nervous system is a recipe for disaster. Whether or not you’re actively feeling something, it’s important to pause and ground yourself in whatever way works for you.
Deep breathing is one of the simplest ways to reset your system. It signals to your nervous system that you’re safe, that everything is okay. This matters most in the middle of chaos, precisely when it’s hardest to remember to do it.
Giving yourself permission and space to regulate keeps you operating at peak levels even when things go sideways. Letting yourself spiral is reckless, and it’s almost always avoidable with a few intentional breaths.
Take a Nap
Somewhere along the way, napping got linked to laziness. Whoever started that rumor lied. There was a time I was afraid to nap because I worried about being judged for not “being productive” enough. But naps have turned out to be one of the key tools that got me where I am today. Sometimes you simply need a midday reset.
You’re not lazy, you’re tired. Given the pace the world moves, sometimes the most productive thing you can do is sleep. A quick nap refreshes your body and lets you return to your day at your best. Naps support your Genius by giving you a chance to begin again mid-day, which can be crucial when big decisions are on the table. Sometimes you really do just need to sleep on it.
Bringing It Together
Your body is not separate from your mind and emotions. It’s where all of it eventually lands. Listen to what your aches are telling you. Check your energy before you check your schedule. Regulate your nervous system before chaos forces you to. And rest without guilt, because rest is part of the work, not a departure from it.
This is the physical foundation your Genius is built on, beautiful ones.
I believe in you. And remember, as always, I love you.
