Question of the Day #6

What is an emotion you try to avoid? Why are you afraid of it? What triggers it?

Grab your pen and your journal. It’s time to tackle today’s question.

We have a 3-part question. Yay!

Avoiding emotions is not the best thing to do but sometimes it’s the necessary thing to do. There are times when it’s “easier” to pretend you’re not feeling a type of way. But what good does that do anyone?

Not only are you lying to the people around you. Most importantly, you are lying to yourself, which is the worst kind of lie you can tell.

It’s completely understandable though. Sometimes we have to tell a fib and hide our true feelings because others can’t handle our truth. Or we don’t want to take ourselves out of our element because we know showing that emotion has the potential to ruin everyone’s day, including ours.

We need to realize just because we avoid an emotion doesn’t mean it isn’t wreaking havoc on the inside. And the more we avoid it, the bigger it grows until one day we explode and spew that emotion everywhere and on everyone.

Take the time to think about this one. You may be avoiding the emotion so well, you no longer recognize it. Dig deep and go back as far as necessary to respond.

Remember, always show yourself grace and compassion. Feel whatever it is you’re feeling, but allow yourself to positively move past it.
