Hey there, beautiful ones! Today, we are going to discuss something I haven’t talked about in a while—shadow work. This is an essential practice on your healing journey. Shadow work is something you will revisit again and again to clear old habits, traumas, beliefs, and pain. The reason this work is so important is that it helps you understand who you’ve been, why you’ve been that way, and what you can do to become the best version of yourself.
What is Shadow Work?
Shadow work is a deep introspective process where you confront and integrate the darker, often hidden aspects of your personality. These can include repressed memories, hidden desires, and parts of yourself that you might consider undesirable. By acknowledging and working through these shadows, you gain insight into your behavior and motivations, leading to profound personal growth.
Steps to Start Your Shadow Work Journey:
Create a Safe Space:
- Find a quiet, comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed. This could be a cozy corner of your home, a peaceful spot in nature, or anywhere you feel secure.
- Use calming elements like candles, incense, or soft music to create a soothing atmosphere.
Start Journaling:
- Begin by writing about your day-to-day experiences and gradually delve into deeper issues. Ask yourself probing questions about your fears, regrets, and behaviors.
- Don’t censor yourself. Allow your thoughts to flow freely, no matter how uncomfortable they might be.
Reflect and Analyze:
- After journaling, take some time to read what you’ve written. Reflect on any patterns or recurring themes.
- Consider how these aspects have influenced your life and relationships.

My Personal Journey with Shadow Work
My journey of healing started with shadow work, and believe me when I tell you, it was one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done for myself. I asked myself question after question to try to understand who I was at the time. The information I gained from the practice is the reason why I am where I am today.
I began to see myself for who I thought I was and how I operated in this world. Anything I wasn’t happy with, I changed. Now, this change was not overnight or simple. It took a lot of patience, persistence, and hard work. However, I stuck to it and watched as my life turned around in incredible ways.
Steps I Took:
Identify Triggers:
- Pay attention to situations that trigger strong emotional reactions. These are often clues to unresolved issues.
- Write about these triggers in your journal and explore why they affect you so deeply.
Seek Support:
- Consider talking to a trusted friend who understands or has undertaken shadow work or deep psychological healing.
- Join support groups or online communities where you can share experiences and learn from others on the same journey.
Practice Self-Compassion:
- Be kind to yourself. Shadow work can bring up painful memories and feelings. Remind yourself that growth takes time and it’s okay to struggle.
- Celebrate small victories and progress, no matter how minor they might seem.

The Ongoing Practice of Shadow Work
Even though I have shifted in ways I never imagined, I still practice journaling and shadow work to keep my awareness levels sharp. Anytime I feel something that doesn’t align with who I am becoming, I question it. This keeps me in an elevated state even when my moods might not be up. This is because I know how to handle things so much better than my past self.
Ongoing Steps for Shadow Work:
Regular Check-Ins:
- Schedule regular times to journal and reflect. This could be daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on what works best for you.
- Use this time to review your progress and set new intentions.
Embrace Change:
- Be open to change and new insights. Shadow work is a continuous process, and your understanding of yourself will evolve over time.
- Adapt your strategies as needed and remain flexible in your approach.
Stay Committed:
- Shadow work requires dedication. Keep pushing through the discomfort and uncertainty.
- Trust that the process will lead to greater self-awareness and personal growth.
My lovelies, shadow work can help you become the best version of yourself, but you must be willing to walk through your darkness to get to your light. It is a rewarding practice, and I implore all of you to give it a try. And for those who are doing shadow work, keep going, and the results will manifest. I believe in you. And remember, as always, I love you. 💙
