The Lesser Emotions: How They Hold Us Back

Hey there, beautiful ones! Today, we’re diving deep into the murky waters of our lesser emotions. I’m talking about the anger, fear, guilt, shame, jealousy, and anxiety that so often sneak into our lives and wreak havoc. These emotions are like uninvited guests at a party—nobody really wants them there, but they somehow always manage to show up. Let’s get to know them a bit better, understand their sneaky ways, and figure out how to show them the door.

The Sneaky Six: Understanding Lower Emotions

First things first, let’s get acquainted with these emotional gremlins. Anger, fear, guilt, shame, jealousy, and anxiety are what I call the “Sneaky Six.” They have a way of creeping into our lives, unannounced, and causing drama and trauma.

Now, don’t get me wrong, feeling these emotions is completely normal. We’re human, after all! But the problem arises when we let them take the wheel and drive our lives into a ditch. These lesser emotions can strike anyone at any time, no matter how evolved or enlightened we think we are. Trust me, I’ve done a lot of work to clear out many of these, but they still pop up now and then to remind me that I’m a work in progress.

The Impact of Unchecked Emotions

Imagine you’re living your life, minding your own business, and BAM! Out of nowhere, you’re hit with a wave of jealousy or a flash of anger. These emotions, if left unchecked, can keep you stuck in a painful cycle, repeating the same drama over and over again. It’s like being trapped in a soap opera, minus the glamorous wardrobe.

Our lesser emotions have a way of convincing us that we have every right to feel them—and in a way, they’re right. We do have the right to feel our feelings. But here’s the kicker: we don’t have to stay in those feelings. We can choose to understand why we feel the way we do, figure out where these emotions are coming from, and then let them go, especially if they’re not serving our highest good.

Breaking Free from Emotional Chains

So, how do we break free from the grip of these lesser emotions? It all starts with self-awareness and emotional intelligence. By becoming more aware of our emotional triggers and developing a deeper understanding of our feelings, we can begin to manage them more effectively.

Think of it like this: our emotions are like toddlers. They’re loud, messy, and prone to tantrums. But just like toddlers, they need love, attention, and guidance. By acknowledging our emotions and giving them the attention they need, we can guide them towards healthier expressions.

Action Steps to Break the Cycle

Ready to start freeing yourself from the grip of lesser emotions? Here are three action steps to help you get started:

  1. Identify Your Triggers: Take some time to reflect on what situations or people tend to trigger your lesser emotions. Write them down and be specific. Knowing your triggers is the first step in managing your emotional responses.
  2. Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a powerful tool for increasing self-awareness. Try incorporating mindfulness practices into your daily routine, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or simply taking a few moments to check in with yourself throughout the day.
  3. Develop Self-Compassion: Be gentle with yourself as you navigate your emotions. Remember, it’s okay to feel angry, scared, or jealous. The key is to approach these feelings with compassion and understanding, rather than judgment.

By taking these steps, you can start to break free from the cycle of lesser emotions and begin to live a more joyful, peaceful, and fulfilling life. Remember, you have the power to choose how you respond to your emotions. Don’t let them control who you are or who you wish to become.

I believe in you. And remember, as always, I love you. 💙
