What are your addictions? When did they start?

#QOTD #ShadowWork

Grab your pen and journal so you can tackle this heavy hitter.

Today’s question is one that will more than likely trigger a few folks, but that’s the point. Remember, when you are triggered, it’s about you and there’s something emotionally happening within you that needs further exploration.

Addictions can be many things. One can be addicted to substances, but also, one can be addicted to behaviors.

When dealing with addictions, the first step to ridding yourself of them is to acknowledge them, no matter how it makes you feel to do so. After that acknowledgment, you head down the road to understanding your inner addict.

Understanding how and why your inner addict operates is a key component of dealing with addiction properly. This isn’t about beating yourself up or being hard on yourself. It’s about understanding what’s going on when your inner addict is in play. How are you feeling? What are you thinking? When did this thought process start? Etc and so forth.

We can deny the existence of addictions because of the negative connotations connected to the word, or we can admit what it is and deal with it accordingly. Also, just to be clear, it’s the addictive behavior that does more damage than addiction to substances ever could.

This one is bound to cause some feelings so give yourself an opportunity to sit with those feelings. Explore what you’re feeling and why. Remember, show yourself compassion and grace.
